 According to reports, The concept of Black holes was first mentioned by Sir Albert Einstein in his theory of relativity. Till now it's existence was unsure, but now it seems to be proved right.



Short Explanation of Black Holes : A black hole is a region of space-time exhibiting such strong gravitational effects that nothing, not even particles and electromagnetic radiation such as light can escape through it.

We've seen so many images of black holes in science fiction movies, but all were animations or illustrations, none of them was real.

Wednesday 10th April 2019, have became an immortal memory in the history of human life, as we've experienced a great breakthrough. First time in the history we humans got the real images of a super massive black hole & it's shadow at the core of super giant elliptical Galaxy Messier 87.

This is the image of that giant Black Hole. It is like a spinning Orange, Black fireball surrounded by dust & gases which raises it's temperature to billions of degrees, which helps to make the orange color around it.

This image was captured two years back by an 'Event Horizon telescope', from the last two years scientists were trying to render this image, finally they got the final output after the work of two years.

This image is blurry because it has been taken from a distance of 55 million light years & it has been zoomed till beyond our imagination.


Some amazing facts about Image

The data captured by the telescopes was of 1000000 GB.

1) 3000000 earths can be placed in this Black Hole.

2) It is at a distance of about 55 million light years from our earth.

3) It is about 6.5 Billion times more massive than our sun.

Major difficulty in clicking & extracting the image : The gravitational force inside the black holes is so powerful such that even light cannot pass through it, if light will not pass it, how will it's image be formed.

How it was overcame : It is probably not possible to take the image of black hole & we have not taken it's image. Actually, Black holes form a Boundary of Gases & dust particles which heats up & raises its temperature to billions of degrees. And due to such high temperature it emits radiation. As you may see, we can see only the boundary, Dark spot between boundary is the black hole.
The image we got is an image of event horizon/ surrounding atmosphere of Black hole. The central black spot is Black Hole.


Astrophysicist of Harvard University & Director of this project said that " We've seen, what we thought was unseen-able ".

Event horizon telescope : In simple language, it is a group of a number of very large & powerful telescopes, which combines together to form a giant virtual telescope.
